The day-to-day life of running the studio and teaching can feel like the work grind that my students arrive at the studio complaining about at the end of the day.
And just like everyone else’s “job” inspiration can wane. Not that I ever forget what we’re doing at Just B Yoga – providing yoga and holistic practices in an accessible and affordable and trauma-informed way.
But time makes the novelty feel worn off. I don’t get to see what it looks like from the outside looking in.
Today we got a surprise glance through that window.
We are on a list of the 10 Best Yoga Studios in Michigan on the Best Things in Michigan website.
Lansing’s Just B Yoga is a unique proposition even among the uniqueness that is yoga. It’s the first-ever donation-only full-time yoga studio in Michigan. Offering a variety of classes, along with teacher training options and a “trauma-sensitive” class structure for those who have undergone certain physical and emotional trauma like loss or natural disaster—as well as a particular focus on social justice—Just B Yoga seeks to provide a stretching for the body as well as for the outlook.
This was quite a lovely surprise, to be recognized for what we do and to hold company with so many polished and esteemed studios around the state.
Our listing wasn’t about the trendy kind of yoga we do but about our mission and our community and how we like to serve.
Today is one of those days work doesn’t feel like a grind. It’s reminders like this that keep us moving forward and focused on our mission.
This is a testament to what we’ve all built. Not to sound cliche but the community IS WHAT MAKES THIS WORK. If every student, every teacher, every organization didn’t support us, promote us, share us, we wouldn’t be here.
Kinda cool to be considered one of the best things in Michigan.
