Seeing through the lens with new eyes

We were all new beings once.

And while our practices of yoga, meditation and tai chi teach us to find a beginner’s mind, we are only truly new once. We only see something for the first time once.

I love the wonder, amazement and mesmerized look you can see on the face of child when they fix on something for the first time.

A breathtaking vista.

A seemingly impossible feat.

A piece of art.

What is sparking in their minds? What light is coming on?

So it’s particularly exciting to see what new eyes capture.

Saturday, Just B Yoga is opening the studio to be used by dear friends for their daughter Brigid to display her art.

Brigid is a budding photographer and has quite an extensive portfolio.Brigid Photo Exhibit_proof

She’s the daughter of Steve and Chela Ashley, owners of Green Eagle Farm in Onondaga.

Brigid has unrestricted access to open air and fields and sky – more than any typical urban teen today.

We could call her a free-range teenager.

And the result of nature nurturing her is clear in her art.

She has a playful attitude in her shots with a natural background that shows us how free our spirits all once were.

Please take some time to drop by the studio between 3 and 7 p.m. Dec. 7 and support a young lady who’s putting herself out there in a vulnerable way.

She’s willing to show us how she sees the world.

I hope our community will come out to show her how we see her art and her heart – beautiful!

Below are three pieces that will be part of the art exhibit tomorrow. Come see the whole exhibit.

Admission: Free
