UPDATE! JULY 31 CLASS CANCELED. FREE COMMUNITY RESUMES SUNDAY, AUG. 4, 4:30 P.M.
The free community yoga class at Just B Yoga is moving to Sundays after more than three years as a mid-week class.
The move will allow new classes to be introduced in that time slot.
The first Sunday class will be Aug. 4. at 4:30 p.m.
The existing Slow Flow class will be moving to another day and time to be announced soon.
The Sunday community class will have rotating Just B Yoga teachers and guest teachers from around the region. If you are interested in guest teaching this class, please contact me at [email protected].
It will remain a free class, and as always any donation is gratefully received.
Just B Yoga began as a free weekly Wednesday class in 2010 in the Shabazz Academy gymnasium. The mid-week class fit into my schedule as I was still working a full-time job.
In 2011 Just B Yoga moved to its own studio space in REO Town on Island Avenue.
The Wednesday class was an anchor to who we are. We have played with its format and time. It has even been mobile. For a while it was Yoga Around Town, bringing the yoga to you! We have done yoga in the Neighborhood Empowerment Center and Grace United Methodist Church.
The Wednesday free community class has been one of the most popular classes at Just B Yoga every week. It often gets full and sometimes people have to be turned away.
I love the Wednesday class because it takes us to our roots in the community.
Just B Yoga was born out of neighborhood people, regular folks, walking down the street for a yoga class. There are people in this class I’ve known since the Shabazz days.
I hope the change of day won’t turn people away from coming to the studio and continuing to practice and connect with community.
In fact we hope this change will encourage even more participation since it’s on the weekend.
So, join us next Wednesday for our last community class in the middle of the week! And we hope to see you Sunday, August 4 for the debut of the new class!
