Just B Yoga shared yoga poses with teens in the Mateen Cleaves 1 Goal 1 Passion Basketball camp in Lansing.
We are honored to join with Mateen to offer healthy activities for our youths, sharing health and fitness lifestyle tips and offering them opportunities to see positive role models. The camp invites community members to share alternative movement like yoga and healthy food options like juices and smoothies.
I arrived at Summit Sports Arena to a line of kids outside the door.
There had to be at least 80 teens and about 10 coaches.
I took them through stretching, strengthening and silencing the mind.
We did standing side bends with me explaining it could help them with a sky hook.
We did sun salutations and felt some cardio and spinal and hamstring lengthening.
We did some plank and shalabasana for some core.
We opened hips and low backs.
But mostly, we opened their minds.
I bow to Mateen Cleaves, a Flint native who is giving back to community in a huge way with his basketball camp. He’s a former MSU Spartan all-star and NBA player, a television host and sports commentator, an entrepreneur and role model…who keeps it REAL.
As I left the court today he was reminding the kids to “work hard and have fun.” He stressed everyone was going to make mistakes, fall and slip. That’s OK. We’re all here to learn. (The next camp is in Flint and the registration ends Aug. 1. Learn more HERE)
Thank you, Mateen.
