What’s worth a drive to Flint on a Sunday night? A pack of knee-pad, mouthguard-wearing girls in pink and green.
The Lansing Derby Vixens are one of Lansing’s roller derby teams. The Vixens have been coming to Just B for yoga training.
Well, some of the Just B Yoga family went to support the team and check out what derby is all about. First, some lovely people I’ve come to know as Sarah and Jen are transformed into “Mullicious Intent” and “Gluteus Maxine.”
Needless to say, there’s a lot of collision and falling involved. Then there’s the screaming fanatics in the suicide seating. Oh, wait, that was us.
I won’t bother with trying to explain the scoring. Suffice it to say it’s – complicated.
I tip my hat to these chicks. They work up a mighty sweat skating in one direction. They slam, bang and smash into each other. They do it in tights, skirts, and sometimes makeup. And at the end of the bout they can still shake their boootays.
Congrats to Gluteus Maxine for winning MVP for the Vixens. I’ve known her for quite a while as a weekend yogi before I learned of her secret derby identity.
Just B is proud to work with this vital part of the #Lovelansing renaissance.
On their website: “Being a Vixen means more than just showing up and skating. It means working to make Greater Lansing a better place to work, live and play!”
The scoreboard may not have reflected Lansing coming out on top, but the Vixens are totally winning in my book.
