2011: Breathe deeply, walk lightly, less is more

We want to reach out further into Lansing neighborhoods extending the message to more folks that we truly mean it – pay what you can, it doesn’t matter, but come and do something good for yourselves!

Now set the list of “dones and wanna-dos” aside. Because the real story is inside the spirits of the people who’ve connected through their yoga and tai chi practices.

Good morning 2011!

It’s a new morning and a new year.

The blessings of 2010 are innumerable. Highlights include:

Midwest Yoga Conference. Julia Butterfly Hill and Seane Korn. These two passionate and inspiring women  played a huge role in being catalysts for change in Lansing and they don’t even know it. While I’ve always had a nagging urge to give back and take healing arts into the inner city, it was through Jonny Kests’ Midwest Yoga Conference and meeting and hearing these two women talk about spiritual activism that got my butt into gear.

Earth Day Lansing. Charged from Hill and Korn Just B Yoga jumped into action to participate in a community event and build awareness for sustainability and eco-awareness.

Many thanks go to loads of yogis and Lansing-area yoga studios for their collaboration.Keep the phone lines open because we’ll be regathering this year!

Shabazz Academy – with the help of Rina Risper and other angels I connected with the Shabazz Academy in March to begin what would eventually become Just B Yoga & Tai Chi LLC. It started with a free community weekly yoga class and a blog.

Just B Yoga studio. In October we were blessed again with an amazing space in REO Town. A small army of supporters helped prep the space and spread the word.

Thanksgiving Day Yoga. What an amazing group of people who came out on Thanksgiving morning to practice yoga and give donations and food to help two needy Lansing families.

What can 2011 hold?

Well we have a new SCHEDULE for one. We have new classes and teachers.

We’ll be having workshops and field trips. I have some great tai chi sifus on tap to visiti and some yogis from near and far. We have some exciting fundraisers planned too – for Just B and good causes in the community.

First I must say that I am the richest of all in blessings. My own practices have been strengthened through each of you. Being able to live my practice is a wonderful and scary thing. Putting my own vulnerabilities and imperfections on display for all to see isn’t what I had expected but it’s so much more a part of Just B than perfectly executing some weird contortionist posture.

But there’s friendships that have formed. Tears have been shed. And glorious laughter has been shared. Stories of emotional despair and debilitating illness have humbled me and even made me wonder if this practice could help at all.

It does. Beyond body and physicality it’s spirit that does the healing. It’s our collective spirit that gives us strength.

Thank you to my amazing family of teachers and friends and students.

May 2011 bring more growth, exploration and freedom to us all.

Breathe deeply. Walk Lightly. Less is more.

B
