Coronavirus distancing and the disabled

We checked in with Caitlin Thompson recently to see how she’s doing during the pandemic.

Caitlin is a counselor who serves the disabled population with accessibility issues in the workplace and transportation and more.

Caitlin, center rear, and Charlie, chatting after class at Just B Yoga last fall.

Since the stay-at-home order she has been working her private practice remotely, but is hardly full of free time.

She shared with us how the social distancing and stay-at-home order is affecting those with visual, hearing nad other impairments.

Just as the pandemic has exposed wide swaths of disparity for communities of color and the impoverished, so it does as well for the differently abled.

On top of access to internet, access to special equipment and computers to effectively connect and get information online is a challenge. All online applications and programs are not effective for the visually impaired. Often the special equipment that can make connecting possible is pricey and hard to get.

Caitlin shares with the Just Being Podcast the challenges her clients are facing, not only to stay healthy and safe, but connected and less isolated, like all of us. She also gives tips on how we can all help be good neighbors to those with different abilities.

(She also gives us an update on Sir Charles Xavier (Charlie), her service dog).
